Women, Children & Families

“Women are the conduits through which change is made.”

—Chris Grumm, CEO and President, Women’s Funding Network

Healthy, secure women are key to strong, vibrant families and communities. Nonetheless, according to the Southwest Women’s Law Institute:

  • Women earn only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men in New Mexico
  • One out of three women in New Mexico will experience domestic abuse in their lifetimes
  • One out of four women in New Mexico will experience sexual assault sometime in their lives
  • 28.3% of women between the ages of 18 and 64 in New Mexico are uninsured
  • One out of six children in New Mexico is uninsured

The New Mexico Community Foundation (NMCF) recognizes the importance of women and girls in our lives and supports many programs statewide that improve their economic status and well-being through networking, peer group learning and other systems of support.

NMCF’s Women Building Community program, for example, focuses on the critical factors–health, economics, the environment and social justice–that affect women’s lives, especially women of color.

Empowering Women, Children and Families

NMCF is committed to supporting projects and inspiring philanthropy to empower women, children and families.

We strive to ensure that women and their families have the resources and ability to determine their own futures, affect change for their economic and educational betterment, and have a voice in the decisions affecting their communities and families.

We also strive to give children the educational opportunities and quality of life that will inspire their leadership in New Mexico in the future.
