Fiscal Sponsorships

New Mexico Community Foundation (NMCF) helps new community charitable projects without nonprofit status get off the ground by providing fiscal and administrative support in the form of Fiscal Sponsorships. See “Types and Characteristics of Funds at New Mexico Community Foundation” for more information on fiscal sponsorships.

Fiscal sponsorships are not a source of funding from NMCF to the project. NMCF maintains fiscal custody of the project account and provides disbursement and accounting services for which it assesses a fee to the project.

The following projects and organizations are not eligible for an NMCF fiscal sponsorship:

  • A for-profit entity
  • A nonprofit corporation. However, these organizations might be eligible for management and administrative support services.
  • Services of an individual which are the sole expenditures of the project and which provide the basis for that individual’s livelihood
  • A project that has as its objective the advancement of a religion or religious doctrine.
  • An entity whose purpose is to engage in electioneering and prohibited lobbying activities.
